PHYSIOLOGICAL PROFILE

Description:

Milo Tora is tall, lean, athletically fit with broad shoulders, and walks with a limp acquired during the most recent war with the Romulans. He has a slightly elongated face with a well-defined jaw line. He keeps his hair in a 1/4" long crew cut and has a meticulously trimmed mustache. He has been known to grow a goatee from time to time, depending on his mood. While his tall and lean stature makes him seem ungainly and not very physically powerful, he is anything but. The fiber density of his muscles is ten times that of a human's, giving him incredible strength, while highly developed senses give him superior reflexes. His bone structure consists of a compound containing calcium, titanium, tungsten, and an unidentifiable element never before encountered by Federation scientists. Combine these, and you have a very formidable ally, or foe.

Note:

His right arm and eye are cybernetic, assumed to have been lost in an engagement with the Borg. Immediately following the engagement, Milo constructed a prosthesis and ocular implant from components scavenged from several Borg corpses. His subsequent models have been a blend of Starfleet and Borg technologies/design resulting in a durable, reliable, and adaptable prosthetics packaged in a simple, eye pleasing and streamlined design. An example of Milo's unique design that his prosthesis is attached via a modular connection system, allowing him to quickly and easily swap it out for other models to fit a specific task or need. The ocular implant is constructed the same way, allowing him to attach different modules, such as a HUD sensor/scanner/diagnostic suite with integrated targeting system, his personal favorite. While Milo does have a prosthesis and ocular implant that are indistinguishable from their flesh and blood counterparts, he considers them part of his dress uniform and only uses them for important events, special occasions, and covert/undercover ops where having an artificial arm & eye would be conspicuous or identifiable. Instead, Milo prefers to go utilitarian, not seeing the point of trying to hide or mask something so obvious.

It has been determined that the unidentifiable element, now known as Milonium, found in Ensign Tora's bones also appears in his skin, hair, and nails, as well as other soft tissues. At this time, it is unclear what effect the presence of this element has on the properties of living tissue, but it is not believed to be a harmful in any way.

'[Former] Colonel Milo Tora is a highly unusual and unique individual. His genetic make up is unlike any other that Starfleet has encountered to date. Like Klingon physiology, all of Tora’s vital life functions are triple, and sometimes quadruple, redundant. Also, his DNA is tetra-helical, increasing its resistance to radiation by a factor of 4, when compared to human DNA. Combined, these make Milo extremely resilient to bodily injury, even if multiple traumatic injuries are sustained. Supplementing these redundancies, his body can heal itself up to 150 times faster than a human, causing all but the largest and deepest lacerations to close right before one’s eyes, anywhere from a matter of seconds to a few minutes' [it is believed that this is do to a catalytic reaction between the Milonium element and his tetra-helical DNA]. 'Similarly, the metalloid composition of his bones makes him resistant to most energy weapons, because the conductive nature of his skeleton acts like a giant capacitor absorbing up to 50% of the energy and slowly dispersing it before it causes serious, if any, damage. This being said, he can be temporarily immobilized, for varying lengths of time, by more powerful energy weapons such as disruptors or phasers set on level 5 or above.' 'At level 7 Milo's skin begins to burn and blister, level 8 causes moderate third degree burns, while level 9 causes serious to severe third degree burns and immediate shock. It is not known what happens above level 9, but it is speculated that level 12 is fatal.' 'The more times Tora is hit over a short period of time, the less effective his resistance is.'

'Tora also has a very aggressive immune system that has proven capable of fighting off severe infections in a matter of hours or days. This was demonstrated when his immune system successfully fought and destroyed the Borg nano-probes that he was exposed to during the Borg attack on his vessel.' 'The main component of his immune system is an unusual retrovirus like organism that appears to be a biological equivalent to the nanite.' 'It is unknown whether this played a part in his resistance to the Borg. More research is being conducted to see if an inoculation can be developed for use in the field.' 'His blood also contains special bio-chemicals that act as an anti-freeze/coolant, allowing him to be theoretically capable of withstand extreme temperatures' [No tests have been preformed to investigate this phenomena].

'Tora’s brain structure is similar to that of a human’s, save for two major differences. The first is that it is 15% larger than a human brain, and second that it has a small third lobe located just in front of the base of the spinal cord, extending out to the front and sides of his brain, and is approximately 3” thick. This third lobe accounts for the increased size of Tora’s brain.' 'Initial tests indicated a latent telepathic ability, as well as limited telekinesis, and the ability to manipulate various electro-magnetic and gravimetric fields.' [Tora has no memory of these tests, do to the lingering affects of head trauma he received, and the test results have been subsequently withheld for his own safety.]

'Further study of the role of Milonium in Tora's biochemical processes has revealed a highly complex system of organic nuclear fission. When Milo sustains an injury, a chemical signal is sent to his bone marrow. Upon receiving the signal, the marrow releases small amounts of Milonium into the blood stream, where it is transported to the site of injury. When the Milonium [a radioactive heavy metal] reaches the tissue surrounding the injury, it is absorbed and broken down into smaller atoms [hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, etc.] through organically driven fission. It is unknown how this process works, but the resulting release of energy is absorbed and used to increase the metabolic rate of the healthy tissue surrounding the injury exponentially. This process is what drives Milo's rapid healing ability.'

Incident Reports:

• 53370.9 At the end of the Dominion War, former Colonel Tora suffered a severe emotional breakdown, and was sent to Starfleet's Psychiatric Ward in San Francisco for a mandatory 30-day observation/recuperation period. While at the Ward, he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, attributed to his encounter with the Borg and subsequent memory loss.

• 53478.9 At the end of his observation period, Milo was cleared for active duty, but Starfleet Command gave him the option to take an extended LOA because of his exemplary service during the War, which Tora accepted.

• 58488.1 Cleared for active duty by Starfleet Medical-San Francisco.

• 58554.1 Diagnosed with Milonium deficiency, Tora underwent a procedure to suppress part of his rapid healing ability. Procedure successful. The procedure is only a temporary fix until a more permanent solution can be found.

• 59113.6 On 59099.4 Colonel Tora injured his left knee during a combat operation against Romulan forces, causing three torn ligaments and severe tissue damage. While corpsmen were able to reattach the ligaments and salvage most of the damaged tissue, some of the damage was irreparable. Because of this, he will have a limp that requires the use of a cane for the rest of his life. It is also likely that he will develop moderate to severe arthritis in the joint as well. Whille wearing a knee brace will allow him to walk normally, it is recommended that he only use one when necessary, or at most while on duty, and exercise the joint regularly in order to maintain maximum strength and flexibility.

PERSONALITY ANALYSIS

Though he sometimes comes off as gruff, terse, and arrogant; Milo Tora is a kind, caring, compassionate, and fiercely loyal individual at heart. He generally keeps to himself, avoiding social situations whenever possible. While he is shy in these situations, when duty calls, Milo will take charge of any situation and meet any challenge head on, demonstrating natural leadership abilities. Milo does have a mild phobia of crowded spaces (Definition, Phobia: a great or excessive dislike of something or some specific situation), however, he has yet to back down from a challenge or order because of this. A normally patient individual, Milo is know to have a bit of a temper, and has been cited several times for participating in bar fights on DS9, though Milo claims it was only for self-defense and the protection of bystanders. It is unknown how the events of the past 8 years will affect his personality, but as of his last evaluation, no changes were detected.

Note:

When stressed, distracted, or frustrated, Tora has been known to inadvertently break things (i.e. table tops, chair backs, railings, doorframes, PADDs, and other objects commonly gripped or squeezed when frustrated or in deep thought) with his cybernetic arm, do to a lack of concentration.

Tora and his team were captured by Dominion forces and were held for 3 weeks. During his time in captivity, Tora was ruthlessly tortured and forced to watch the slow and agonizing deaths of his entire incursion team, one by one. When Milo escaped, he ruthlessly slaughtered every living being in the military complex, by evacuating the atmosphere from all compartments except for life support control (where he was), before leveling it. While the Dominion’s attempts at breaking him ultimately failed, Milo has regretted the needless loss of his team ever since. In a three-week span, Tora lost 15 of his closest friends, including the woman whom he’d loved. He holds himself personally responsible for each and every death, and has vowed to never let that happen again. Starfleet Medical had considered pulling him from the front lines after the incident, but Starfleet Command saw him as too great of an asset to lose.
