A fiery nebula and stellar nursery

New Year's Eve

Though many races throughout the galaxy celebrate the occurrence of new solar cycles, Starfleet Headquarters--and therefore many Starfleet officers, human or not--celebrate Earth's calendar renewal on December 31st, or "New Year's Eve." The 1st of January is thus known as "New Year's Day."

On stardate 63999.7, the Potemkin crew was recalled to Earth to take part in extended security measures related to threats by the Orion Syndicate during Earth's New Year's Eve celebrations. During the course of the evening, an explosion was detonated near Alcatraz Island causing a great many civilian injuries and damage to San Francisco and Starfleet infrastructure. That night also saw the death of former Orion Syndicate leader Thadial Bokar, and the escape of those responsible for the blast and Bokar's death.
