Starfleet Diplomatic Vessel. The Utrecht, carrying Admiral Atherton, was one of four vessels (including the Trafalgar, the de Ruyter, and the Bellerophon) that gathered around Neria for the dual purposes of carrying out diplomatic negotiations for admitting the planet into the Federation and guarding it against a Wotal invasion fleet.

Command of the flotilla was temporarily handed to the Atherton and the Utrecht when the Potemkin was disabled because of a Wotal Trojan horse.
