The El Cid-B was one of the Federation vessels that fought in the Battle of Bolarus in 2386. (TEM: "Blue Blood") This ship replaced the previous El Cid lost at the Battle of Galordon Core. Captain Techmin - having survived the loss of the first ship - was in command of the El Cid-B in 2383.

Named after El Cid, a Castilian military leader during the 11th century, and the national hero of Spain.
